WELCOME TO MY (WORK)SHOP

Hand-crafted designs made by printing with bike parts

CUSTOM-MADE PRINTS

Would you like your own version of these location-specific prints?

I created this series based on rides or climbs that I’ve done or want to do. With this in mind, I’d love to create bespoke prints as a memento for other people’s adventures and challenges.

Following the same style as my location specific prints, I’ll design your location and then add it to my growing list for others who have done it.

DOM: LOVER OF ALL THINGS CYCLING, DESIGN & PRINTMAKING

Ever wondered what it would look like if you printed the surface of bike parts and turned them into a poster?

Probably not…but I did! What started as a crafty escape from all things digital way back in 2016, has now become a combination of my love for cycling and printmaking.

It’s about much more than my obsession for two wheels. The designs are about curiosity, surprises, simplicity, form meeting function, nature meeting mechanics and of course...BIKES!

This is just the start of my adventure into sharing prints with the world, so stay on my wheel and let’s see where this goes!

MY APPROACH

ANALOGUE CREATIVITY MEETS DIGITAL DESIGN

I apply ink directly onto the surfaces of bike parts and print by hand onto sheets of paper. Once dried, I scan them in to use on my computer, opening up a world of design possibilities. Hence analogue meets digital.

My print process

Everything from the inks, paper and packaging to the bike parts themselves have been carefully selected with consideration for our planet. I even cycled from London to Brighton to collect my printing press. You can watch that bike trip here.

Ethically sourced

The most important part of my process is allowing space for the unexpected. The beauty of making by hand is you never get the same results twice and when you print a new object, the textures reveal all kinds of wonderful surprises.

Embracing the unexpected

MY VIRAL MOMENT

Who knew people liked bike printing so much?!

This summer I made a reel showing the process of how I make analogue combined with digital prints. The reaction showed me that many people enjoy and connect with “slow” creativity.

The design is centered around how I used my bike tyre to print and draw the route of my trip. It shows how the simplicity of analogue combined with digital design can create something totally new.

 FAQs

  • Every design has an original bike part that I have printed by hand, scanned in, then customised digitally to create new compositions. After the conceptual stages of making the print, I then re-print either at home using my 8-pigment ink Canon printer, outsourced for museum grade Giclée or my favourite…screenprinting. In every production I look to achieve the best possible print quality and materials. Each print is checked, trimmed, and packaged by hand.

  • Not at the moment. I can share some recommendations if you drop me a message on instagram, but for now I’m focussing on my prints and leaving it to you or the framing pros.

  • Not yet. I’m keeping it local for now. UK shipping only, to keep things smooth and reliable.

  • Prints are carefully wrapped in tissue and shipped in sturdy triangular tubes or flat mailers, depending on size. I do this myself and sometimes rope in the support of my partner Lauren.

  • Most orders ship within 5 working days. All black ink A3 prints I do at home and can ship earlier. A3 and A2 Giclée I place orders for on demand and usually arrive in 3 days before I then package up and ship to you. Screenprints take a little longer if they’re in production or fresh off the press. You’ll get a dispatch email once your print is heading your way.

  • Yes! If you place an order before the 14th December then I will be sure to get it shipped with plenty of time for Santa to make the delivery.

  • I’m currently doing custom orders for location specific prints. E.g. Sa Calobra. So if you’ve done an epic ride that you want as a memento in your home, pain cave, cafe, shop etc then absolutely get in touch. Would love to collab. As for sizes and colours, I can certainly try to meet your preferences. Drop me a message.

  • That would suck! But something I would do my best to resolve. Send me a photo over email, explain the issue and I’ll arrange a replacement or refund.

  • As much as possible I use G F Smith Colorplan because they are elite! I’m currently using three colours. Natural, Factory Yellow and Mandarin. For Giclée prints I use another brilliant paper called Hahnemuhle German Etching paper.
